Wankr

You should check out the wankr beta, it truly captures the essence of web 2.0.
Related (kinda): web 3.0 by Jeffrey Zeldman. Good stuff.

  1. Well, personally I think that bashing web2.0 is getting a bit old already. After all, there are a few really useful apps that have come out of that “circlejerk”.

I think Zeldman is correct in all the points he states, but in my eyes jokes like “wankr” seem like they were made by people who are just sorry they couldn’t get on the moneytrain themselves. A little jealousy goes a long way.

  2. I didn’t link them because bashing web 2.0 is the thing du jour, but because i think they’re quite right, at least more so than the web 2.0 fanboys. I personally can’t think of one useful app that came out of this circlejerk, all the really useful apps, the ones i use on a daily basis and rely on, came into existence way before everyone started bandying about the web 2.0 moniker. Now perhaps i haven’t been looking hard enough lately, but most of the stuff launched these days is endless hype with nothing to show for it or just another “we’re kinda like flickr but…”-thingy. I don’t care about the umpteenth social bookmarking service, unless it’s by an order of magnitude better than del.icio.us (kinda like google was to yahoo/altavista/…). Don’t get me wrong, i really appreciate the principals and values at the core of what Tim O’Reilly originally baptized web 2.0, i just think the whole hype machinery around it has spinned way out of hand to the point where the term is at best completely meaningless.

  3. [...] wankr beta | web 3.0 - the cycle accelerates, the time between hyping and dissing new trends is getting shorter and shorter. funny | smart nevertheless. [via endgadgeted] [...]
