Yahoo! Mail upgrade

I’ve had an old yahoo mail account for several years, from back in the days when they offered 6mb storage on their free accounts. Some time later they started cutting features from free accounts, like pop3 access and decreasing storage space to 4mb. Even though i lost pop3 access back then, they left my 6mb quota intact, so i figured i wouldn’t be upgraded to their new 100mb quota as well. Moments ago i logged into my account for the first time since the upgrade and guess what – it’s been upgraded to 100mb. Not that i actually use the account anymore, but still nice to see that yahoo likelier adds features than removes them from their free services. No need for a fancy gmail account anymore, i’m glad i don’t have to enter one of those annoying “win a gmail invite”-contests springing up everywhere lately.

New Series 60 phones, features and a keyboard

That butt-ugly 3g-s60-phone i mentioned a while back finally got officially announced as the 6630. The design is a strange breed of 3650 and 6600 and looks worse than those two, but this is about as close to what i want as anything i know of right now.
Other series 60 news: the 6260, a nokia clamshell smartphone, a feature boost including support for higher res screens and a wireless keyboard.
Sometimes i really miss the goodness of my old 7650…

Living room

Now that i’m in the middle of picking furniture for my new, soon-to-be moved in flat (pics might follow, depending on outcome of my furnituring attempts) i was reminded of a few bookmarks i wanted to post for quite some time now. They’re hardly related yet all revolve around living (the domestic aspect thereof), ranging from prefab houses to smart interior design:

  • fabprefab, “a web resource dedicated to tracking developments in the realm of ‚Äòmodernist prefab dwellings‚Äô”. My personal favorite: the loftcube – how much could it possiby cost to rent a rooftop in viennas inner city? (via boingboing)
  • The bbc reported about smart homes. The tiny graphic detailing the usage of a room makes me wanna pay more attention to my daily routines in the future, i suppose there’s tremendous potential to make your everyday life a lot easier just by reoganizing your rooms furniture. (via smartmobs)
  • Offices for small spaces, a book recommendation by mocoloco
  • Update: futureshack, experimental emergency housing

Airport Express

Even though after careful consideration i’ve concluded that i’d have absolutely no use for it, i still want one. The magic of apple i guess.

Free Bitflows June 2004

Free Bitflows Session #2
Currently the free bitflows conference is going on in vienna. Due to a rather cramped schedule i won’t make it to half as many sessions as i’d like, but today i attended session #2: “The Future of File Sharing: Darknet Reloaded?”, with Ian Clarke, Janko Roettgers and Sjoera Nas as participants. Originally i stumbled across the conference through Bruce Sterlings “Beyond the Beyond” blog a few months ago.
The participants gave presentations about the current legal state of anonymity and file-sharing, the potential of introducing social networking trends into p2p file-sharing systems and freenet.
I’ve put my session notes online in clear text format – both the original notes as taken during the session and a slightly post-edited version which hopefully is a little more comprehensible.
Hopefully i’ll find the time to write a little bit more as soon as i sober up…
