Bound to the desktop

Always wanted to do some writing in a pub (or some coding, that is) on something like this or perhaps a sweet subnotebook. My visions of me sitting in a pub, drinking beer, smoking cigs and getting some writing done actually were the initial trigger for my inordinate gadget lust and interest in mobile computing.
Of course this dream never came true. I stopped writing fiction some five years ago with my adolescent ambitions fading and all the (non-code-related) writing i currently do is blogging. For me blogging is deeply linked to surfing & syndicating, so without a decent internet connection i can’t blog. Furthermore, i do most of my coding remotely on the university servers via ssh, and even when i code on my local machine, i heavily rely on online resources (hail google). There’s no writing i can get done without being online, but gprs and wifi are just too expensive here in austria, at least for a poor student. Can’t wait for the day when i can finally afford getting all my work done off my desktop.
