Cool new Nokia gear
I know it’s been quiet in this place far too long, but i had lots of trouble reformatting my system after getting my new combo drive. But that’s not what i wanna talk about (at least now).
Some people already wondered about nokias apparent lack of innovation, and i second their thoughts – nokia has become a pretty boring gadget brand in the last months, especially with all the cool new stuff other companies introduced.
But now they’re apparently back, and boy, that’s what i call a fabulous comeback. Few days ago nokia introduced new ultry-cool gadget-gear, offering some nice innovations. First, there’s their new umts cellphone, the nokia 7600. Oddly shaped, once again no traditional keypad, yet very interesting. It’s perhaps a bit larger than i could accept (the size and weight of my 7650 slowly gets annoying), but the shape sure is interesting. Second, they introduced several new accessories, all connected to imaging and camphones. They showed two medallions sporting a small lcd-screen to wear your snapshots around your neck or wrist and another wearable gadget called the nokia kaleidoscope 1 that allows you to share intimate pictures with others even in crowded places. Besides those ‘fashion accessories’ (i’m still not comfortable with referring to them as fashionable), they also showed two image frames with lcd screens to display your camphone pics. Interesting new stuff indeed, though i’m not quite sure if i would wear one of their medallions.
What`s been going on
I wasn’t very active on this blog over the last two weeks, so apparently there had to be stuff happening that kept me away. As posted here my combo drive broke some time ago and knowing how bad my laptop-manufacturers customer support usually is, i expected to lose my little darling for at least a month. Therefore i had to prepare my old celeron 600 laptop as a replacement and the horrifying thought of going back to this system kept me from bringing my new one to the service center till today.
But – surprise – they simply changed the drive right there and i could return home with my fixed laptop some 15 minutes later. Now that everythings fixed and running quite well, i once again can feel the love to my laptop. Even gave it a full cleaning today.
Been away

I’ve been to berlin visiting a dear friend for the last few days, please excuse my absence. Too bad i couldn’t get my moblog finished before the trip. 314 unread posts in my newsreader, it’ll take some time to catch up, so here’s a snapshot from my trip for the moment, the potsdamer platz (photo taken with nokia 7650, resized).
Feed Validator moved
Zeldmans weblog reported that the feed validator i use on this site has moved. I already wondered why the validation link didn’t work anymore, and most likely i wouldn’t have found out for some time because the old address isn’t even reachable anymore. I’m glad that i subscribed to zeldmans rss feed a few days back.
List-linking
I once again locked quite a few items in my newsreader for later referral on this blog, and once again i have to realize that the only way of getting rid of these items is to list-link them. So here we go, with little to no comments:
ipodsync 2.7 released – grab it if you are on windows and want to sync your pim data with your ‘pod.
‘cool hunters’ like apple’s shine
new aibo ers-7 – also check out this /. thread, lots of interesting and/or funny comments. I especially like the idea of "[...] an intelligent wireless access point that can move itself around the house!"
ipod rival roundup (via gizmodo) – for all those sick of my ipod hyping.

Futuremovie Friday
Following his "i want to see the world"-wednesday, warren ellis is hosting the futuremovie friday @die puny humans, his weblog. I won’t be able to contribute to this one because i don’t feel up to the task of shooting a video. Taking a photo, that’s easy, but shooting a video? Completely different thing. I wouldn’t be able to film anything other than my desktop anyway ’cause i got a lot of coding to do.
Update: due credit: the fine catch-line "futuremovie friday" was crafted by kelly sue.
One button-press phone call recording
…isn’t such a novelty. My trusty, old siemens s45 offered that feature. My nokia 7650 also offers the possibility to record phone calls, but it’s not quite as simple and comfortable as it was with the siemens s45. Actually i never used that feature, though i can imagine that it could come in handy when "negotiating" with telephone support about important stuff. Just make sure that the person on the other side of the line knows that you’ll record the call.
Vote for your favourite Buffy episode
Via whedonesque: "vote for your top buffy episode – fox are releasing a dvd with the top 4 episodes of buffy on it as voted for by the fans"
Go vote! The current top 4 as i voted are:
1. Once more with feeling
2. Hush
3. The gift
4. Becoming part 1
I’m pretty happy with this ranking, as the top 3 (‘once more with feeling’, ‘hush’ and ‘the gift’) are definitely my personal top 3. However, i voted for ‘restless’, as it’s #4 on my personal fav-list and lacks the mainstream appeal of the other episodes, so it’ll definitely need the votes. Btw, in case you’re interested, #5 on my list would’ve been ‘normal again’, very different, but i like it a lot.

Wishful thinking
I want it. I’d even move to london just to live there. Could someone please lend me £650,000? (via gibson blog)
