Jenneths SPV blues
The joy of using a microsoft smartphone.
Today i noticed that my nokia 7650 wasn’t ringing anymore. I totally freaked out, fearing that i’ll have to bring it to a service center, leaving me unconnected for several weeks. But a soft reset later (that is to say, approx. 5 minutes) the issue was fixed and running well. I didn’t lose any apps or data, the only thing i had to do was set my ringtone and background image (approx. another five minutes). The joy of using a symbian phone.
Considering this was the first error within four months of usage, i’d say that in practice symbian series 60 is at least as stable as palm os. I’ll rather stick with symbian than microsoft for the future.

Getting unwired, staying connected
Few days ago gizmodo pointed me to this post which describes how om malik got rid of 13 pounds of mobile gear and gadgetry and finally cut the wire by signing gprs and wifi dataplans. I thought about this for the last few days (though i’m of course uncapable of articulating my thoughts properly). Considering my current internet usage and wireless data-transfer pricing here in austria it’s totally out-of-question for me following oms example, but even the potential implications of doing so appear revolutionary to me. I spend a lot of time in front of my pc, mainly surfing the web or keeping up with my subscribed feeds, therefore i also spend a lot of time indoors at my desk because i’m bound to it by my wired flatrate. By switching to mobile data-usage i’d be able to follow my addiction virtually everywhere. I’m not quite sure if i would, but at least i’m sure that i should.

On moblogging
Imagine describing mobloging to someone 30 years ago: "You’ll wear a tiny camera wherever you go and can instantly decide to make your camshots publicly available. Everybody around the world can view those pics anytime, anywhere."
Sounds quite mystical to me even nowadays.
Btw, this isn’t totally off-topic, i’m currently trying to get a moblog out the door. It wouldn’t take much longer than a few hours to finish the necessary scripts, i’m just not quite motivated to code, but rather to fantasize how cool a moblog would be.
Camphone Collage
Though tom coates apparently struggles getting gprs up and running on his t610 he presents a collage of the first few days with his new phone.
I should really do something to boost my creative energy. I repeatedly stumble across simple, yet ingenious ideas that make me wonder why i didn’t come up with something like that earlier. Imho especially simple ideas shouldn’t be copied.
ot: yes, i realize that i rather gibber than articulate well-formed thoughts. I’m just not quite sure if i don’t do that all the time…

On blogging and pornography
Rcb guest blogger the spoonbender on the difficulty of blogging: "It pushed blogging into the mainstream consciousness, or at least nudged it toward the mainstream consciousness, as an example of "thriving independent journalism." You’d have to be retarded to call even the best blogging journalism, and I’d use "self-obsessed" and "masturbatory" instead of "independent" and "thriving." "
Can’t argue about that, and still, i’m blogging.
The reverse cowgirl susannah breslin on pornography: "What we see in porn is, like the subjects of photojournalist James Nachtwey’s war photos, almost more than we can bear to see of our own humanity.
Some of us cannot bear to look at all.
Some of us cannot bear to look away."

Mobile Burns virtual trip to Japan (update #2)

Featuring the SH2101v, a pda-type 3g video phone with a full keyboard, large screen and a bluetooth handset included. Love it!
