iPod desires

After a month of careful consideration i decided to buy an ipod yesterday, but after lots of phone calls i found out that they are sold out everywhere in vienna and upper austria. I could find only one single store that had the 10gb ipod in stock, but i rather wanted to go for the 15gb or 30gb ipod (the lack of accessories provided with the 10gb model is just disappointing). However, i was told by several stores that they expect a 15gb-delivery next week and they recommended me to pay a deposit to ensure to get a unit of the next delivery. Not being able to wait even longer for a 30gb ipod i followed the recommendation, so hopefully i’ll become a proud ipod owner next week.
I’m not quite sure if i’ll regret that i didn’t wait for the 30gb ipod, but then again the 15gb is (physically) smaller, weighs less and is 100 euro cheaper.
Now i’ve started searching for some decent cases, but since a dear friend showed me a fantastic ipod case in i-d‘s july issue i’m spoiled. Too bad i don’t know how to get my hands on it, afaik it’s only available at colette in paris and they don’t offer it in their online shop. Perhaps i’ll just go with an iskin or vaja case.

Sony Ericsson Z600 and P810 pics

@mobileburn. Considering the t610s brilliant design i’m rather disappointed by those two, especially the z600. At least the p810 looks more professional than the p800 did.

Cheap flatrates everywhere but here

India gets gprs flatrates for $2 a month, japan gets 12 mbit flatrates for $21 a month. What do i get? 1 mb gprs traffic for euro 2.50. (via gizmodo, slashdot).

Psion drops epoc, chooses windows ce .net over symbian. Scary.

Winer Watcher down. Sort of.

Access to winer watcher has been resctricted. No bright future for my statistics. And he’s broken lots of links. I wonder if dave still cares about the traffic generated by winer watcher now that it ain’t publicly available anymore? Sensing a pretext, anyone?

G5 the wrong way to go?

Would apple do better if they focused on laptop-optimized cpus like intels pentium m or transmeta cpus? They expect to sell more laptops than desktops soon with laptops already accounting for 40 % of apples overall computer sales. Imho a quiet, cool, low power cpu would also fit better in most of their desktops, namely imac and emac.
Furthermore, apple users are already comfortable with not caring too much about a cpus clockspeed, a huge advantage considering intels marketing stunts in promoting the centrino platform with its lower mhz specs when compared to the pentium 4.
Yet the g5 appears to be a classical desktop powerhouse as it was first (and yet exclusively) introduced in their powerpc line and needs some serious cooling. Can’t see how to apply those "airflow principles" to a laptop.
Perhaps apple should team up with transmeta.

Bring Winer Watcher down

Apparently it’s "defend dave winer/bring winer watcher down"-day. Several people already commented on the issue, including dave himself, and they cover about any thought i had on winer watcher.
What i find interesting is that mark apparently influences daves posting/editing behaviour. Bad thing imho. Take a look at the following statistic:

08.07.03: 16 edits
09.07.03: 10 edits
10.07.03: 1 edit

Looks like he tries to starve winer watcher to death.
(Several links blatantly ripped off scripting news).
Fyi: this post has been edited after it was published.

Gizmodo: "Quit complaining"

On people freaking out about camphone abuse: "Most of this hysteria seems to be just about the fact that cameraphones are new and unusual and that it’s easier to demonize a piece of technology than it is to reign in some people’s socially aberrant behavior."
