Me and my gadgets

I didn’t take the time to read this brilliant editorial by jenneth till now, and i honestly regret it. She definitely got a point there and made me wonder why i tend to argue about the pros and cons of various mobile device operating systems. I started out with a psion revo (symbian os) few years back, then switched to a palm m100 (palm os), followed by a handspring visor edge (palm os). Right now i use a nokia 7650 (symbian os/series60), that replaced both my visor and my old cellphone. Therefore i would say that i got some experience with palm os and symbian os, but never really gave ppc a chance, except for the rare moments i played around with my brothers dell axim. Even though i currently use a symbian os device, i consider palm os superior (at least when it comes to pda functionality, i’m not quite sure how well it performs as a phone-os) for a variety of reasons, above all it’s simplicity and sleek elegance. And though i never owned a ppc, i’m heavily biased towards its os, primarily because it just ‘feels’ wrong to me. In the short time i tried it i got the impression that it’s bloated, unreliable, easy to crash and hard to use compared to palm os, and from a consumer perspective i expect a device that is easy to use and reliable, rather than flexible and featureladden. However, i think it’s time to expand my horizon and give ppc a chance. Now i just have to figure out how to get the money together on a students tight budget…

Glimpse at future clie

sony clie sneek peak
There’s a nice information roundup of sonys new clies @brighthand. Especially interesting is a picture of a sony executive showing a new, yet unannounced clie model. Its form-factor heavily resembles nintendos new gba sp, imho a brilliant design. Just wonder who copied who…

Details of upcoming iPaq models

Brighthand collected a lot of info on hps upcoming ipaq models. I’m looking forward to the new h1900-series models and the all new h2200-series, looks like they could really threaten dells success with its axim line (though i’m sure that dell will update its ppc-lineup soon). The new h1900 models could actually be the first ppcs i consider buying (yeah, i’m a palm zealot).

Site redesign

Anyone who visited this site in the last few days might have experienced some ‘strange behavior’; first it went totally offline, then it appeared in a new design and showed some meaningless posts. The reason for this is that i spent the last few days redesigning and recoding the whole site, but now i’m back online, and believe me, things have improved: the new scripts support image attachments to the posts, there’s a ‘related posts’ feature (that still needs some refinement) and the design is imho much better than the old one. Furthermore i managed to produce valid html 4.01 strict, valid css and valid rss. Actually the old rss feed already validated, but as you can read here, i’m quite sure that it actually wasn’t valid. I therefore switched from rss 0.91 to rss 2.0. There are still some rough edges, though: i suppose parts of the archive won’t validate and some pages aren’t up yet (‘about’ and ‘contact’), but i’ll fix that asap. Till then: if you find anything not working, please contact me.

Unintentional phone sex

I don’t consider this story especially interesting or funny, but it surprised me that infosync picked it up. Strange, they don’t usually link unoriginal forum gossip, do they? Must have been a lazy day.

Jenneth`s switch to palm os

I always love to see ppc-guys switching to palm (yes, i’m biased when it comes to palm vs. ppc), and jenneth recently discovered the zire 71. Really a lovely device.

Intel introduces personal server

I love the concept of the personal server due to several sync-related struggles in the past. I’m sure that it is necessary to keep your personal data centralized cause syncing is always somehow problematic. Can’t wait to see these coming to stores.
